Phoebe Folgelman is a member of the Haslam Scholars Program at the University of Tennessee as a chemical engineering student. She sees the program as “a unique opportunity because the participants are continuously challenged to think about and respond to problems to which viable solutions do not currently exist.”
Phoebe spent her first summer volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and planting a vegetable garden. In summer 2013 Phoebe traveled with her fellow Scholars to Costa Rica to study biodiversity and the effects of ecotourism on the environment.
